School Closure 2022 LIVE: State-Wise Status On Schools, Colleges Closing Again; Updates On Term 2 Exam Dates

New Delhi: Amid the rise in Covid cases in the country including the Omicron variant, several cities and states including Delhi, Mumbai, Odisha, Punjab and West Bengal have announced the closure of schools, colleges and other educational institutions.

The Uttar Pradesh government on Tuesday ordered closure of all schools up to Class 10 till January 15 and extended the night curfew by two hours. The Karnataka government also has decided to shut schools and pre-university colleges except for Classes 10 and 12 students for two weeks.

According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, there were 58,097 new Covid cases in the country in the last 24 hours with 2,135 omicron cases in India in the morning of January 5. Maharashtra has the maximum number of them, with 653 omicron cases, followed by Delhi and Kerala with 464 and 185 cases.

Meanwhile, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE) have decided to conduct term 2 board exams in March-April, 2022, and the date sheets for these exams will be released soon. A few state boards including Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Bihar have already released the 2022 board exam dates.
